Turinabol, chemically chlorodehydromethyltestosterone, is an oral anabolic-androgenic steroid. It was developed in the 1960s in the former GDR and is also known for its state-run doping program in elite sports. It is 17-alpha-alkylated, so it is effective orally, but can be toxic to the liver.
Reported anabolic effects
Bodybuilding users typically associate it with:
- increase in protein synthesis
- better nitrogen retention
- moderate muscle gain with relatively low water retention
- increase in strength without significant “bloat”
- no direct aromatization to estrogen
Compound profile
Turinabol is often described as moderately anabolic and relatively less androgenic compared to testosterone. However, this does not mean that it is risk-free.
Generally described combinations
In the bodybuilding scene, Turinabol is rarely mentioned completely on its own. It is mentioned with testosterone as a base, with other injectable AAS in the bulking or cutting phase, and sometimes as an introductory compound at the beginning of a longer cycle with long-acting esters.
Risks of combinations
- cardiovascular diseases
- negative changes in blood lipids – decrease in HDL and increase in LDL
- hormonal suppression
- psychological side effects
Cycles and dosage
Because Turinabol is an oral steroid with potential liver toxicity, non-medical use is generally described as time-limited. Specific doses and cycle lengths are not safe without medical supervision.
Summary
Turinabol may be perceived as a “milder” oral steroid, but it can still harm the liver, hormonal balance, blood lipids, and cardiovascular system.
