Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes and obesity. It is known by the trade names Ozempic and Wegovy. It is not an anabolic steroid and does not directly promote muscle growth. 

Does it have anabolic effects?

• does not increase testosterone 

• does not activate androgen receptors 

• does not act on IGF-1 like growth hormone 

Its main effects relate to appetite, gastric emptying, glycemic control, and weight reduction.

In an unregulated context, it is added to anabolic agents to preserve muscle during significant deficits and improve competitive definition. Such strategies are not medically recommended.
