Ibutamoren is often mistakenly referred to as a SARM, but it is actually a growth hormone secretagogue. It stimulates the release of its own growth hormone and secondarily increases IGF-1.
Possible effects
- increase in GH and IGF-1
- supporting muscle growth indirectly via GH/IGF-1
- better regeneration
- improving sleep quality, especially deep sleep
- increased appetite during bulking phases
- possible joint and connective tissue support
- potential impact on bone density
Since it does not directly activate androgen receptors, it does not usually cause typical androgenic manifestations such as severe acne, hair loss, or prostate enlargement to the extent typical of steroids.
Who uses it?
- bodybuilders in the bulking phase
- strength athletes looking for regeneration
- people trying to increase IGF-1
- some users in the anti-aging field without approval for this purpose
Goals include muscle growth, faster recovery between workouts, better sleep, and increased appetite.
Risks
- water retention
- higher blood sugar
- possible insulin resistance
- strong increase in appetite and risk of fat gain
- tingling or numbness
- increased blood pressure
- fatigue or drowsiness
- burden on the cardiovascular system
Long-term safety data in healthy athletes are limited.
Combinations
- testosterone
- nandrolone
- trenbolone
- methandienone
- boldenone
Steroids are supposed to have a direct anabolic-androgenic effect, while ibutamoren increases GH and IGF-1. This increases the risk of metabolic, cardiovascular, hormonal, and blood problems.
Summary
Ibutamoren is not an approved over-the-counter drug in many countries and is prohibited in competitive sports. Hormonal manipulation without medical guidance is risky.
