Deca Durabolin, or nandrolone decanoate, is a popular muscle-building steroid in bodybuilding. When combined with Sustanon or other testosterone preparations, such as Dianabol, the original text describes significant gains in strength and muscle mass. 

What is nandrolone decanoate? 

Nandrolone decanoate, known by the trade name Deca-Durabolin, is an anabolic-androgenic steroid with a long decanoate ester. It was developed for medical use, such as in some forms of anemia or muscle wasting. Its long half-life allows it to last for weeks. 

Reported anabolic effects 

Bodybuilding users most often report: 

• increased protein synthesis and support for muscle growth, 

• better nitrogen retention, 

• higher collagen synthesis, which is often associated with subjective “joint comfort”, 

• increase in lean body mass, 

• relatively fewer androgenic side effects than testosterone, although it is not without risks. 

Nandrolone is considered to be strongly anabolic with moderate androgenicity, but it significantly suppresses the body’s own production of testosterone. 

Combinations (“stacks”) – general 

In the community, nandrolone decanoate is rarely reported alone. Common, not recommended combinations: 

• with testosterone as a base, 

• with other injectable AAS in bulking phases, 

• partly with oral AAS. 

Such combinations are supposed to produce synergistic effects, but they significantly increase the risk of: 

• cardiovascular diseases, 

• hormonal dysregulation, 

• gynecomastia, also through progestogenic activity, 

• erectile dysfunction known as “Deca-Dick”, 

• psychological changes. 

Cycle length and dosage 

Because of the long-acting ester, nandrolone decanoate is reported in the community for longer periods. Stable levels are built up slowly and then slowly decline. Specific doses or cycle lengths are not listed. Use without medical indication and supervision carries significant risks. 

Important health risks 

• strong suppression of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, 

• worsening of blood lipids (LDL up, HDL down), 

• increased risk of heart muscle enlargement, 

• higher blood viscosity, 

• prolactin side effects, 

• fertility problems, 

• possible long-term endocrine damage.
